NDC lookup and drug search
Look up a medicine by its name or by the NDC code on the bottle or box, and see what its pills look like.
How to look up a drug by NDC or name
- Find the NDC on the bottle, box or pharmacy label. It is a 10 or 11 digit number, often written in three parts.
- Type it with or without dashes, or type the drug name.
- Open a result to see the pill’s photo, imprint and strength.
What is an NDC code?
The National Drug Code (NDC) is the number the US Food and Drug Administration uses to identify a drug product. It has three parts: the labeler (the company), the product (the drug, its strength and form) and the package (its size and type). Pharmacies and insurers often write it with 11 digits by adding a leading zero to one part.
Common questions
Where do I find the NDC?
On the manufacturer’s bottle or box, usually near the barcode, and often on pharmacy labels. It may start with the letters NDC.
The NDC on my pharmacy bottle finds nothing. Why?
Pharmacies sometimes repackage medicines under their own NDC, and 11-digit codes include an extra zero. Try the drug name, or search by the imprint on the pill.
Do medicines outside the US have NDC codes?
No. NDC codes are used for medicines sold in the US. Search other medicines by name or by imprint.
