Identify a pill by color and shape
Cannot read the imprint? Pick the color and shape to see every pill that matches, with pictures.
How to search by color and shape
- Pick the color. For capsules or pills with two colors, pick both.
- Pick the shape.
- Click Identify pill to see the matches.
- Add any letters or numbers you can read from the imprint to narrow the list.
Choosing the right color
- Off-white, cream and very pale gray pills are usually listed as white.
- Peach is often listed as orange, and lavender as purple.
- For capsules, pick the color of each half.
- Coatings can look darker or shinier in photos, so judge the color in daylight.
Choosing the right shape
- Capsule / oblong: long with rounded ends. This includes many tablets shaped like a capsule.
- Oval: egg-shaped, with no straight sides.
- Round: a circle, even if the pill is thick or domed.
- If two matches look the same, measure your pill in millimeters with a ruler. Every pill page lists its size.
Common questions
Why are there so many results?
Many medicines share the same color and shape, especially small white round tablets. The imprint is the only reliable way to tell them apart, so add any part of it you can read.
Can a pill be identified by color and shape alone?
Not safely. Use color and shape to narrow the list, then confirm with the imprint or ask a pharmacist.
